"Moving to a larger stage, the scope of the book shifts to the reception of the mutiny in England in the eighteenth century. Bligh's Bad Language offers a new interpretation of the mutiny in the context of its historical and cultural representations." "Beginning with an analysis of naval life and ritual aboard the Bounty, Greg Dening argues that the famous mutiny did not take place due to punitive violence, as Captain Bligh is shown to be one of the least violent of British Navy captains. ![]() By juxtaposing an account of the mutiny with an analysis of its evolving place in history and culture, Mr. "Captain Bligh and the voyage of the Bounty are the starting point of this new study of the famous mutiny in history, literature and film. ![]()

In the grand scheme of things it's not a book with particularly high stakes, but to the characters the disruption to their plans can still seem very important to them. In some ways it is quite timely since it follows five characters in a lockdown, although in this case they are locking down in a motel for travellers awaiting a slot to go through a wormhole when a satellite accident leads to all flights being grounded. Like her other novels this was a science fiction story with more of a focus on characters and world-building rather than plot, although I think it did have a more coherent narrative than the previous book in the series. The picture painted in the book is that of a subject originally focused on dealing with the important problems facing the world that was seemingly hijacked over the 20th Century. Despite the various critiques offered in the book, Kate Raworth views economics as central to creating a better world. As she states early on in the book, ‘a handful of out of date, blinkered, or downright wrong diagrams have wordlessly but powerfully framed the way we are taught to understand the economic world’. As an Economist first and foremost, the book approaches not just the fundamental environmental and social issues facing the world, but the role that mainstream economics has played in leading us down these paths. It has been translated into 18 different languages and has served as a reference point for numerous organisations, from the UN General Assembly all the way across to the Occupy Movement. ![]() Kate Raworth’s Doughnut Economics caused quite a stir when it cameout in 2017 and continues to be an important book in the field of sustainability. ![]() ![]() " Coming Attraction" by Fritz Leiber (1950)."
